The holidays are just around the corner and so is the marketing competition. Every company is fighting for a piece of the pie, trying to get it but here's the thing, most of them are going about it all wrong. They're trying to compete with the ad spend of the giants like Amazon, and Wal-Mart, ultimately failing miserably. You can't win that game! What you need to do is target the verticals that are not being targeted and have low competition. This creates a unique opportunity rather than a disadvantage. Let's take a look at how you can do this.
1. Figure out who your target audience is: This seems like a no-brainer but you would be surprised at how many businesses don't take the time to do this. You need to know who you're marketing to so that you can tailor your message accordingly. Are you targeting families? singles? seniors? Once you know who your target audience is, you can start thinking about what they want and need.
2. Research your competition: Take a look at who your competitors are and what they're doing right and wrong. What are they missing? What could you do better? This research will be invaluable as you start planning your own holiday marketing strategy. Whatever they are not doing correctly or not targeting is your opportunity to stand out, why compete when you can lead the space do what others are not and you will stand out. Target the audiences they are not and you will be seen.
3. Create a plan: Once you know who you're targeting and what your competition looks like, it's time to start putting together a social and marketing plan. How are you going to reach your target audience? What kind of messaging are you going to use? What kind of promotions are you going to run? Answering these questions will help you create a cohesive marketing strategy that will get results.
4. Execute your plan: The final step is to execute your plan. This is where the rubber meets the road and all of your hard work pays off. Make sure that you're staying true to your brand and delivering on your promises. If you do that, you'll be well on your way to a successful holiday season!
